Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is a water-soluble vitamin involved in metabolic processes and is essential for the normal function of both the central and peripheral nervous systems. In its phosphorylated form, vitamin B6 supports decarboxylation, transamination, and deamination of amino acids, participates in the synthesis of proteins, enzymes, and hemoglobin, and is involved in the metabolism of serotonin and glutamic acid. It also enhances the utilization of unsaturated fatty acids, lowers blood cholesterol and lipid levels, improves myocardial contractility, and helps convert folic acid into its active form.
Vitamin B6 links protein and energy metabolism, contributes to fat metabolism, and plays a role in collagen synthesis.
Properties of Vitamin B6
A deficiency of vitamin B6 manifests as growth retardation, stress, skin disorders, changes in the peripheral and central nervous systems, decreased protein levels, and damage to the kidneys and heart, as well as poor hatchability in incubation. Lack or absence of vitamin B6 disrupts metabolism, particularly that of amino acids, iron, and copper, and impairs the conversion of protein into fat, ultimately affecting the body’s overall nutritional status.
Feed-Grade Vitamin B6
Feed-grade vitamin B6 contains pyridoxine hydrochloride as the active substance — not less than 98.0%. It is a white crystalline powder in appearance.
Application of Vitamin B6
Feed-grade vitamin B6 is used in the production of premixes and compound feeds for farm animals, including poultry. It is added at feed mills or on-farm feed mixing facilities using standard mixing technologies. The dosage of feed-grade vitamin B6 is based on its active ingredient content, in accordance with nutritional requirements and considering the vitamin B6 levels in existing feed ingredients and raw materials.
Vitamin B6 is stable and compatible with all feed components, medicinal products, and other feed additives. When used as directed, no side effects or complications have been reported. No contraindications have been identified.
