Vitamin A (anti-xerophthalmic)
Belongs to the group of fat-soluble vitamins. Fat-soluble vitamins are not coenzymes (enzyme precursors). The most common and biologically active form of vitamin A is retinol, which is found only in animal-based products. The precursor of retinol is carotene, which is obtained from feed and converted into retinol in the walls of the small intestine, the liver, and the blood.
Properties of Vitamin A
Vitamin A acts as a protective agent for all ectodermal tissues and their structures. It promotes the regeneration of the skin and mucous membranes. Vitamin A plays a particularly important role in vision, and is also crucial in bone development and animal fertility.
