Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) belongs to the group of water-soluble vitamins. It is essential for the normalization of hematopoiesis (blood formation). Vitamin B12 plays an important role in the nutritional support of animals, being an indispensable factor for growth and reproduction, positively influencing the function of the central nervous system and various metabolic processes. It is a vital participant in protein metabolism and the formation of certain amino acids. Vitamin B12 affects carbohydrate utilization, takes part in sulfhydryl group metabolism, and has lipotropic effects, helping reduce fat accumulation in the liver. It also has a methionine-sparing effect and improves the absorption of amino acids from plant proteins and carotene.

Properties of Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is the only vitamin synthesized exclusively by microorganisms, which are the primary natural source of this compound. Sources of cobalamins include feeds of microbiological origin and animal-based feeds.

The requirement for vitamin B12 increases under stressful conditions, during the use of antibiotics, fat-rich diets, methionine deficiency or excess, amino acid imbalance, and the presence of certain organic and volatile fatty acids in the feed.

The use of feed-grade vitamin B12 helps normalize metabolic processes in the body and ensures high growth rates and proper development of farm animals, including poultry and fur-bearing animals.

Feed-Grade Vitamin B12

Feed-grade vitamin B12 contains cyanocobalamin as the active ingredient – 10 g/kg (1%). It appears as a fine, hygroscopic powder ranging in color from pale red to brown.

This additive is used to enrich and balance livestock diets (including poultry and fur animals) with vitamin B12, and in the production of premixes and feed additives. It is added to feed at compound feed plants equipped for stepwise mixing, or used directly in premix manufacturing.

Feed-grade vitamin B12 is stable and compatible with all feed ingredients, medications, and other feed additives. No side effects or complications have been reported when used according to established norms. No contraindications have been identified.
