Vitamin B4 (Choline Chloride) is a water-soluble vitamin that is an integral part of all body cells, primarily as a component of phospholipids. Choline also serves as a crucial donor of methyl groups in various methylation reactions within the body. In animals, it is found not only as part of lecithins but also in its free form. Blood typically contains about 35 mg% of total choline, with most of it residing in the plasma.
Properties of Vitamin B4
Choline chloride plays a significant role in tissue construction, being essential for the formation and preservation of structural cells, as well as for the normal maturation of the bone’s cartilaginous matrix. It regulates fat metabolism, preventing fatty infiltration and hemorrhagic degeneration of the liver and kidneys. It also enhances the synthesis and accumulation of glycogen in the liver. Furthermore, choline is a source of methyl groups in the synthesis of methionine, creatine, adrenaline, and methylnicotinamide, and it’s a precursor for the synthesis of acetylcholine—a crucial neurotransmitter for impulse transmission in the sympathetic nervous system.
Supplementing the diet with choline chloride accelerates the growth and development of animals and poultry, strengthens the nervous system, improves sow fertility, contributes to healthy offspring, increases milk production in lactating sows, and enhances egg production and average egg weight in poultry.
Feed Grade Vitamin B4: Composition and Application
Feed grade Vitamin B4 is synthetically produced and contains not less than 60% choline chloride (equivalent to 600,000 mg/kg of choline chloride per 1 kg). It is a free-flowing yellow-brown powder with a specific odor and is hygroscopic. Importantly, it does not contain genetically modified products.
Feed grade Vitamin B4 is used to normalize metabolism in farm animals, including poultry, as well as cats and dogs. It is incorporated into premixes, compound feeds, and feed mixtures at feed mills or on-farm feed preparation units, utilizing existing mixing technologies.
Feed grade Vitamin B4 is stable and compatible with all feed ingredients, medicinal products, vitamins, and other feed additives. No side effects or complications have been reported when using the vitamin according to existing norms, and no contraindications have been established.
