Sepiolite Mg₄(OH)₂·6H₂O

Sepiolite Mg₄(OH)₂·6H₂O is used for the production of compound feeds and premixes for farm animals. It is used as an adsorbent for mycotoxins and heavy metals in feeds. Sepiolite can be used to enrich diets with magnesium, as well as to reduce the level of moisture in bedding and lower gas accumulation in animal houses.

Properties and Composition

The offered substance is a porous, fibrous mineral, also known as “sea foam.” It effectively removes harmful components from the body and acts as a natural absorbent, particularly for moisture. Its chemical composition is Mg₄Si₆O₁₅₂·6H₂O. Common impurities include aluminum, calcium, iron, and nickel. It predominantly occurs in compact masses, forming cork-like aggregates up to 20 cm in size. Its high porosity and low density make it a unique, natural, and environmentally friendly absorbent. It can be applied in numerous fields.

Applications Across Industries

In the agricultural sector, sepiolite is used as an improver of fertilizer properties and a carrier for pesticides. It also serves as an absorbent in pet bedding and as an ammonia gas absorber on livestock farms.

In the food industry, it is registered as a technological additive E-562 within the functional group of binding and anti-caking agents. It is used as a technological additive for animal feeds, helping achieve homogeneity in mixtures of compounds that do not naturally blend. This characteristic helps prevent caking and clumping of finished products.

Benefits in Animal Feed and Health

In agriculture, sepiolite is applied in the production of feeds and premixes as a mycotoxin sorbent. It consists of three-layer clay minerals that bind mycotoxins between their layers and on their surface. It significantly improves the health of the animal’s digestive system. It is an excellent absorber of mycotoxins and heavy metals, facilitating their removal from the body, along with other toxins and radioactive substances. This reduces digestive upset, thereby creating conditions for normal digestion and nutrient absorption.

Due to its biological activity, sepiolite directly or indirectly influences the vital functions of the entire organism. It possesses higher ion-exchange and adsorption properties, positively affecting animal productivity.
