Feed grade Tryptophan is a crucial feed additive used in the production of compound feeds and premixes for livestock, including poultry. It serves to enrich and balance animal diets with tryptophan.
This substance is involved in the formation of precursors to nicotinic acid amide, and it serves as a source of the essential amino acid—tryptophan—which is a component of proteins. It participates in maintaining nitrogen balance in metabolic processes, acts of excitation, and also regulates the function of the endocrine system, stimulating the pituitary gland’s production of growth hormone. The body uses it to create muscle protein, immune system antibody protein, and it participates in the production of serotonin and the synthesis of melatonin and carnitine.
The introduction of L-tryptophan into diets accelerates growth and development, and also increases the productivity and survivability of farm animals, including poultry. It also influences the digestibility of feed by animals, helps increase the level of crude protein assimilation from feed, and reduces the specific feed consumption per unit of product produced.
Tryptophan deficiency in animals manifests as loss of appetite, slowed growth, worsening feed conversion, nervous system disorders, coarsening of the hair coat, and in some cases, an enlarged thyroid gland and fatty liver are noted. Its deficiency leads to the appearance of cataracts. The development of bone and cartilage tissues is impaired, the spine deforms (lordosis, scoliosis), and atrophy of lymphoid tissue occurs.
